About our Bus Service...
Posted on 22/01/2013 at 21:09In 2012 from January to the end of December 2012 we have provided transport to Cork University Hospital for cancer patients to attend 3600 appointments for radiotherapy.
Our bus service ran right up to and including Christmas Eve, and resumed after St Stephens Day. The bus service was only down for 2 days in 2012.
Our bus numbers average 310 per month. The return trip by Bus Éireann would cost an individual €28 return. You will be dropped outside the gates of the University Hospital. After having a treatment you would have had to get a bus or taxi to the bus depot to get the return bus to Kerry.
We offer a dedicated service which takes patients from one of our pick up points and brings them to the hospital for treatment waits while all patients on board are treated and then brings them back to where they were picked up. We have been working with Cork University Hospital for over two years now so we have been able to gain their trust and they have allowed us an hour or two to get all on board our bus to be treated.
Such is the wide acceptance of our service that we are now providing transport for up to 95% (CUH advised us of this figure November 2012) of Kerry patients who need to attend Cork University Hospital for radiotherapy treatment.

Posted on 28/05/2012 at 10:28My father recently passed away from cancer and we decided to alocate all donations received at the funeral to the Kerry Cancer Support Group. Dad suffered from Cancer over the past year and was always talking about the great work your organisation did. We hope this donation will help in some small way to continue the great work your are doing.

Posted on 22/05/2012 at 11:46Being diagnosed with cancer has been one of the most dificult experiences I have had to face in my Life. Having undergone various cancer treatments, including a masectomy, nobody seemed to understand the emotional pain and suffering. In the KCSG centre it really has helped me both physically and emotionally. I got the chance to connect with others that have gone through the same fears and anxieties. Most important of all with the help of therapist Breda Woulfe, she has helped me come to terms with my emotional journey and my physical recovery through the different holistic treatments. I am feeling much more emotionally balanced and my Lymphedema has reduced considerably. During my treatment I also became an emotional eater which Breda ha really helped me overcome. I cannot recomment Kerry Cancer Support Group highly enough, it has been a life changing experience. For anybody out there who has gone through this pain and suffering (family member, friend, carer) and if you feel you need somebody to talk to, just call into their centre and meet their staff, they always have time for everybody.

Posted on 17/04/2012 at 10:35This is an excellent service. It provides more than travel, it was good to talk to others and get information and emotional support, but also helps to release pressure at different times. All the service users provide support to each other. The driver is very supportive and made the journey very pleasant.

Posted on 17/04/2012 at 10:29I was very pleased with this service. I enjoyed travelling with the other passengers on the bus. Most important of all it was always on time and always kept clean and tidy. Travelling on the bus I was given morning appointments, I was very happy with that.

Posted on 17/04/2012 at 10:19This is an excellent service. More money needs to be raised for the cost of the running of the bus.
